Tuesdays Topic - Celebrations

Tuesdays Topic - I've been participating in this last couple of weeks. Just a little something to get the creative juices flowing. It is like a weekly book club meeting, only there isn't any book :)

This weeks topic - celebrations. Normally one thinks about birthdays or weddings but there are other things in life to celebrate. Mine? My mother has been quite ill and was in a rehab center for a couple of months. She came home last week. Just the fact that she has come home is a reason to celebrate. To Celebrate Life. It has been a long and difficult time for her. She still has medical challenges, but things are improving.

Celebrate life

The flamingo makes me smile. Be happy. Is there any other way to celebrate life?

Travel among the stars - always a dream

Travel among the stars. A friend asked if I could travel anywhere where would I go? Instantly an image of the night sky flashed and with great sorrow I realized my dreams of travel among the stars would always remain a dream. When growing up I always believed space travel would be commonplace and I would live among the stars. Today I doubt if humans will ever venture into the beyond. How did this happen? How did the sense of wonder and discovery disappear? Since the mysteries of the night sky are now shrouded by the lights of the big cities does anyone look to the sky in awe and wonder?

I still do. As a child my bedroom was filled with images of the night sky. Of course the images themselves were a mystery. The telescopes of my childhood did not deliver the clarity and true magnificence of the galaxy.

My favorite was Orion. The Hunter beckoned me and I wished I could go.

I am not the only one that Orion has beckoned. Orion is the name of the shuttle fleet replacement. Until the official announcement next week Orion is shrouded in mystery

Movie rumors - Star Trek

Star Trek movie rumors - I hope they are true. The latest blurb is the Mirror Universe is revisited. This will allow the mixing of old and new - Kirk, Picard and Archer. What fun!!! Hope they add the Borg... there have been many wonderful Star Trek villains, but none compares to the Borg. Is there any greater fear than to lose ones free will and become a machine? Well the rumor was my inspiration for this CafePress design

I had a wonderful weekend. To wind down, relax and just generally recharge the old batteries... Okay the batteries aren't that old :) I play online poker. I've joined a few poker forums and made some interesting friends. We all have one thing in common, relaxing while playing cards and chatting. I made final table several times this weekend. WooHoo!! Won a few dollars which I'll use to play some more. I play tournaments for a maximum of $5, most of the time for free. And I can do it from my recliner, with my feet up, bunny slippers on and a cup of coffee at my side.

I do hope that craziness in Washington about online poker subsides. I enjoy the time with my poker buddies. For me it is a virtual social gathering :)

I also did some work this weekend. I got inspired by some remark about chocolate and coffee and babies. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they stored coffee beans and chocolate beans together? Think of the intermingling of scents and taste.... And babies, is there one that likes strained peas?? No lets not put babies on coffee, but chocolate veggies? Now that has possibilites! Imagine a dessert veggie. Yummy!

Veggie of choice is chocolate - infant and kid

I can see it now. Babies of the world unite. Refuse strained peas and demand the new vegetable of choice Chocolate. Oh and we all know how yuckie it is to clean up tossed strained peas.

Did you ever notice how real life interferes with your planned schedule? It is especially true when you work at home. All my work on my AlienTees.com site has gone on hold....

I got a phone call from a friend whose daughter is getting married next month. Her future son-in-law had ordered gifts for all the male members of the wedding party. They just arrived, but there is a major mistake in the engraving. Tinas' daughter is Ilene - all the engraving is Irene. Tod contacted the company and they were very nice...yes just send the order back and they will redo it or if he prefers refund his money. He waited almost a month for the original order and is really worried if he orders a replacement, its wrong too, it will be too late to get it corrected.

I really can't understand why the entire process should take so long. I did a bit of Googling. The result is my holiday and special occasion web site Lebeauchat.com now has Bridal Party engravable gifts section. I just had the fun Bridal Party stuff. My favorite was a play on the Runaway Bride -

Runaway bride - no way

But Tods' experience made me realize there is a need for more than the fun Bridal Party stuff. The engravable items I found, well I was truly amazed at not only the great products, but the fact they are usually engraved and shipped within 3 business days. Here are my favorite picks (but I have to admit with so many choices I had trouble picking)...

For a fun gift for the male members of the wedding party

Engraved Silver Plated Yo Yo - $ 21.24

Retail Price: 24.99
You Save: $3.75

or something a bit more practical

Engraved Golf Clock Key Chain - $ 21.24

Retail Price: 24.99
You Save: $3.75

I never knew there were so many different Zippo lighters or that they could be engraved. But how many people smoke any more? Oh right, the occasional cigar to celebrate special occasions. So I'm not sure a lighter is very practical, but they sure are attractive...okay I think alot of them are very sexy. Do you agree?

Zippo Black Ice Eagle Lighter - $ 25.46

Retail Price: 29.95
You Save: $4.49

So, Tod has decided to return and get a refund. He placed an order thru Lebeauchat.com. I can't tell you what he ordered, cause that would just ruin the gift for all the guys in the wedding party. But he should have the order this week. Which if there are any problems gives plenty of time before the big day to get them fixed.

Course I did suggest to Tina her daughter could change her name to Irene :)

Maybe this week I'll get AlienTees finished??

I have been inspired by the Roddenberry family's release of Star Trek merchandise. Oh how I want to believe we are not alone in the universe :)

Believe we are not alone Long Sleeve T-Shirt. Hate to say it but the cool weather will be here before you know it Space ships and the belief we are not alone

BTW - AlienTees.com is coming along nicely. The best laid plans yada, yada - it should be done this week and than it is on to the next web site. So many websites and so little time :)

Technorati:

It is finally here. Official release by the Roddenberry family of Star Trek merchandise. As a long time fan of Star Trek I have to say it has been worth the long, long wait. I want it all :) but I must settle for a few.

A week has passed and I am still bogged down in the minutia. I've been making changes to Alientees and in going through testing links made a nasty discovery. One of the CafePress designs I am linking to... well the shopkeeper has made a few changes and they aren't good. What a bummer!

I wanted to have everything up and running by yesterday - where is that Tardis?

Have you ever wondered how the Good Dr. will travel now that call boxes are all but a thing of the past?
